Dominican Republic
Cristina Gregorio and her daughter Milly Bello left The Brooklyn Tabernacle several years ago to return to Cristina's old home in the Dominican Republic. She began holding meetings in her home and a small church was formed almost immediately. As the church kept growing, Cristina gave up her home to be rebuilt as a much larger 2 story church building, which still needs some work to be completed. Cristina is the Pastor over this church, which has about 50-75 adults and 30-40 children. Milly, who grew up as a youth in The Brooklyn Tabernacle, has had many duties such as teaching the Adult Sunday School and overseeing Christian Education (children).
In the Dominican Republic, it is common to have segregated churches where Haitians and Dominicans congregate separately. In Cristina's church, Haitians and Dominicans worship together. One Haitian brother shared how he found racism against Haitians in Dominican Republic churches, but when he came to Cristina's church, he felt the love and acceptance of the brethren among both Haitians and Dominicans.
Alcoholism and promiscuity are severe social problems. Many of the men in Cristina's church have been delivered from alcoholism. There are also unmarried couples that got saved in the church, realized that they were living in sin and are now married or soon to be married. God is using Cristina and Milly to set many captives free in Santo Domingo.
