Who Are We?
The ACTS ministry matches donations (furniture, appliances, electronics, etc.) with individuals who are in need of them. We pick up and drop off donated items, generally serving all New York City boroughs, but predominantly Brooklyn.
To submit your items for donation or to make a request for your need, please visit the Acts Ministry website here.
Serve In This Ministry
Eligibility to Serve in the Acts Ministry:
In order to serve in this ministry, you must be a member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle or in the process of becoming a member. The ACTS ministry field workers must complete a release of liability form and be able to help lifting weighty furniture. All members are required to attend quarterly meetings.
Activities and Functions:
-
Coordinators
Take phone, email and web messages for donations and requests. Match donations with recipients, update database, schedule pick-ups/deliveries, and prepare documents for Field Leaders. Communicate with the Logistics Team, donors and recipients until the mission is accomplished. -
Field/Mission Workers
Help pick up and deliver household furnishings. Typically, Saturday moves begin at 8am at 180 Livingston Street. After prayer and mission review, workers travel together by van or truck and return to 180 Livingston Street to be dismissed between 12pm and 1pm. If anyone is unable to work their shift, prior notification (5 days in advance) and the name of worker who will take their place should be given to team leaders. -
Logistics
In pairs, visit the home of both donors and recipients to assess the items intended for donation (e.g. taking pictures and measurements, etc.), physical housing situation (e.g. number of staircases, size of hallway and elevators), parking situation, where to enter and exit, receive building permits or security clearance and report all the requested information to the coordinators. -
Special Events Planning
In collaboration with ministry leaders, assist with planning and coordinating special events such as Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving celebrations, summer picnics, monthly fellowships and other activities.
Frequency of Service
Field workers are scheduled for one Saturday morning per month for pickups and delivers. Coordinators serve one week out of every month for one or more hours per day as needed, usually in the evenings. Coordination is done remotely from home. Additionally, all workers help with logistics visits as needed.
Length of Commitment
All Acts ministry volunteers are asked to make a one-year commitment to the ministry.
Special Requirements
Some Field Workers must have the ability to lift heavy or cumbersome items.
