Acts Ministry Testimonies“
Almost a week ago you blessed us with some furniture — a bed for my daughter, a book shelf for her books, and a desk. We were in dire need of these items for a very long time, and express sincerest gratitude to you for blessing us. Thank you so much for your love and service, we are deeply grateful."
THANK YOU... the sofa would not come out without removing the door from its hinges, they proceeded to do it without a complaint. They got the door off in less than 3 minutes, removed the sofa and re-attached the door for me. The team was all so pleasant and I could definitely see that they enjoy what they do, and they do it as unto the Lord.
The recipient was so blessed by how God moved in this mission and in awe that He supplied exceedingly and beyond what she needed.
— Ministry Leader
I don't think we've seen joy expressed in someone's eyes in a long time as in the Recipient, she was very grateful. She couldn't stop thanking us.
— Ministry Leader
God bless each of you for your disposition in volunteering to be part of a team which is not always seen, yet, is undoubtedly doing the work of the Father in a most practical way. It's even more gratifying and fulfilling to KNOW that the families or individuals who are receiving any donated items will surely experience more of what I and my family did from just the pick-up process! Once more, I thank God for you all and want to encourage you to continue sowing in such great ACTS!
It was such a blessing to finally sleep on a real bed! When we have it, we take it for granted. But try living without it, as we have for the last 6 months. Thank you again! The beds are so comfortable that we had a hard time getting out of bed on Sunday morning. God bless each of your team members. We will continue to lift up this ministry in prayer, as continued donations keep coming in, to bless many others.
I'm still praising God and thanking you all at the Acts Ministry. I thank you for the freely given love shown to my family at our time of need. I thank you for the work you set out to do and accomplish in this ministry.
I thank you for the time you set aside to help us.
I thank you for allowing God to use you and for being obedient to His call.
I thank you for allowing my children to see how we all should work for the edification of the church by sharing the love that is in Christ Jesus.
Thank you for your leadership skills in being so organized and accurate in your timing. Thank you for the prayer that I know God was in the midst of. Thank you for being one in all. The love and kindness shared with me and my family today was awesome! The living room set is new and beautiful. I couldn't ask for more from a furniture store. We have been truly blessed. We are grateful to God and The Brooklyn Tabernacle Acts Ministry. Thank you again. Amen.
Serve In This Ministry
Eligibility to Serve in the Acts Ministry:
In order to serve in this ministry, you must be a member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle or in the process of becoming a member. All ministry members are required to complete a release of liability form and attend bi-annual meetings and fellowships. Depending on your team, a monthly service commitment of 5 to 10 hours per mission week is required. Volunteers serve one week per month. The ministry is closed in July, August and December.
Teams and Functions:
They process phone, email and web messages from donors and recipients. Match donations to recipients; maintain database, schedule logistic visits, pick-ups and deliveries. Prepare documents for the Field Team Members to carry out the Saturday mission. Facilitate communication between the Field Team Members, donors and recipients until the mission is completed.
Field Team Members
They pick-up and deliver household furniture. Saturday moves begin at 8 am at 17 Smith Street. After prayer and mission review, workers carry out the mission together by car and truck. They return to 180 Livingston Street and dismiss between noon and 1 pm. If a member has a schedule conflict, a swap arrangement must be made. Early notification must be given to the team leader (7 days in advance) with the name of a worker, who will take their place.
All workers (Coordinators and Field Team Members) are required to conduct visits to donor and recipient homes, during their week of service. Workers go in pairs to assess the items intended for donation or verify the need of the recipient. They measure and take pictures of the furniture, space, entrance/exit, etc. A report about the visit is prepared for the coordinators.
Frequency of Service
Field Team Members are scheduled for one Saturday per month for pickups and deliveries. Coordinators serve one week out of every month for a few hours each evening. Coordination functions are done from the volunteer’s home. Additionally, all workers help with logistics visits during their scheduled week of service.
Length of Commitment
A one-year commitment to the ministry is required.
The ACTS volunteers must serve joyfully with others, be able to follow instructions/directions from leadership, and in a spirit of brotherly love communicate with co-laborers and the public. The Field Team Members must be able to help lift weighty furniture. It is required to have access to applications such as Microsoft Word/Excel and home internet service.
