Focus 2019 MVMNT Retreat
MVMNT (Young Adults)
August 23rd — 25th, 2019
Multi-day Event
  • Lake Champion, Glen Spey, NY

Welcome to our FOCUS 2019 MVMNT Retreat!

We are so glad that you have decided to get away with us August 23rd—August 25th!

We live in a society where so many things vie for our attention that we can barely hear ourselves think. Our prayer for you is that while we’re away, all of the other distractions will fall to the background as God’s voice becomes the FOCUS. There’s the famous hymn that says, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus…then the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” We’re excited about seeing a generation of Young Adults who are FOCUSED and not letting anything get in the way of what God has called them to do and be.

For His glory alone,

Vic and Bethsaida

We are so excited to introduce breakout sessions that are bigger and better than before! This year, we are offering a range of topics that are relevant to the average young adult. Check out the breakout schedule. You will need to know which breakout sessions you plan on attending during your registration:

Breakout sessions

  • God & Career (Identity)—Not sure what career path to follow? Do you sometimes feel like you have to hide or compromise who you are as a believer to get ahead? In this session, you will learn how to navigate your career as a believer.
  • God & Truth (Apologetics)—Is it “your” truth, “my” truth or “the” truth. In a culture with multiple viewpoints, uncertainty is celebrated while certainty is seen as arrogant and intolerant. In this session you will learn how to navigate through the culture of confusion and how the truth of Christ provides hope and clarity in every area of our lives.
  • God & Sex (Relationships)—Does God hate sex? Does he really expect us to wait until marriage? In this session, you will learn God’s design for sex and how it applies to your life.
  • God & Time (Spiritual Health)—Do you feel like there’s not enough time in the day? And even worse, it feels almost impossible to take time during the chaotic day to spend time with Jesus. What does that even look like? Is it even important? In this session you will learn about the spiritual benefits and practicalities of spending time with God on a daily basis.

Pastor Tyrone McDonald
Pastor Tyrone was born and raised in New York City. At the age of 18, he was visiting a friend in Bible School, when the Lord revealed Himself to him; and he gave his heart to Jesus Christ. Tyrone later went on to become a New York City Police Officer for several years. While he was serving in various ministries at his home church, The Brooklyn Tabernacle, Pastor Jim Cymbala and the leadership there felt God had more for him to do. Soon afterward he joined the staff of The Brooklyn Tabernacle and served for eight years as an Associate Pastor. In April 2008, the McDonald family felt God leading them to Elizabeth, New Jersey, to pastor Trinity Christian Center. He has been married for 23 years and has 3 children: Tierra, 23 years old; Caleb, 20 years old; and Laura, 18 years old.

In Jeremiah 33:3, the Lord said, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”  Understanding that this is a promise from God, Pastor Tyrone's greatest desire is to see people “Call on God.

Victor Olds
Vic is a native New Yorker who grew up attending The Brooklyn Tabernacle. He served in MVMNT for 8 years before transitioning into leadership as director of the ministry.  He is passionate about helping young adults develop a deeper relationship with Jesus.  He and his wife, Bethsaida, have been married for three years and have twin, toddler daughters.

Susan Pettrey
Susan Pettrey grew up in NYC witnessing great moves of God and His power to change the most hopeless of lives. As an adult, Susan has been all over the spectrum of ministry at the Brooklyn Tabernacle. She has served as a worship leader and soloist in the choir. She is the director of the women’s ministry, as well as, the BT Drama Company, where she writes and produces productions that are used to minister to the church and evangelize her city. Her greatest priority, however, is her wonderful husband, Brian, and four amazing children.
