we shower, shave, dress for our appointments. But it’s much more important to prepare the inner person by spending time with God in the Word and in prayer so that we can receive spiritual strength for the day. Then, whatever comes our way, we will be ready to meet the challenge.
This is why I’m writing this book—not that my thought for each day is sufficient on its own, but I want it to be an arrow pointing us to spend time with God. As we spend time with the Lord, his Spirit ministers to our spirits and prepares us for the day ahead.
When we meet with God in the morning, big problems can come, and we are confident that God will take care of them. But when we’re not prepared, not walking in the Spirit, then a mosquito can buzz by, and we want to call 911. All day long we need “the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ” (2 Thessalonians 3:5). But we only get those from spending time with Jesus every day.
