Let’s Do It! – Part 2
“We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.” (2 Thessalonians 3:9 NIV)
The apostle Paul warned the believers in Thessalonica against idleness and the negative behaviors that could ensue; and he encouraged them to follow his example by working diligently instead. Paul’s exhortation is for every Christian today as well. We’re following not only Paul’s model, but the example provided by Jesus when he said, “My Father is always working, and so am I” (John 5:17).
Do you work in an office? Work hard every day. Do you teach? Work hard every day. Are you an executive assistant to a CEO? Work hard. Are you a farmer? Work hard at farming.
The Bible says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your heart”! That includes all of our activities for the Lord. If we read the Bible, let’s read it with all our heart; if we go to choir practice, let’s kill ourselves in the practice! Let’s work hard! There’s something wonderful about working with everything that is within us. On the other hand, there is nothing worse in life than a half-baked anything! It’s for God that we’re singing! It’s God we’re worshiping! It’s to him that we lift up holy hands!
Everyone in the body of Christ has a different gifting, and someone may not have as much as another, but to be lazy is unforgivable, because we’re laboring for Christ. When he was in the Garden of Gethsemane, did Jesus pray half-heartedly? And when he went to the cross, did it cost him little? No, it cost him a lot! So what are we going to do now? Be casual followers of Jesus Christ? No! We’re going to be all-out, fully committed, hard-working followers of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit that is at work in us. If we’re going to do it, let’s do it!
