… At All Times
“Trust in God at all times, my people. Tell him all your troubles, for he is our refuge.” (Psalm 62:8 GNT)
The Psalmist says that he depends on God alone. That is true for most Christians—sometimes. At other times, not so much. That’s why David exhorts the people to trust in God at all times.
Sometimes we have a situation, and we automatically bring it to the Lord, saying, “Oh God, I trust you! I know you’re there!” And for some reason, whether it is because of the way we’re made or the moods we go through in life, we face a different situation and we become anxious, we complain, we get depressed, we panic and act unwisely. The Lord has to help us trust him at all times – not just on Monday and Tuesday, or following a good service on Sunday, but on Wednesday and Thursday as well; not just when we’re in our twenties, but throughout our whole lives.
The Psalmist, anointed by the Holy Spirit, exhorts us to trust in the Lord at all times—not sometimes, but all the time. How is it that we can trust God for some things, yet find ourselves carrying and fretting about others? There are times when we take our eyes off God completely, because we put our confidence in the blessing instead of the one who gives the blessing! In other situations, we completely forget how God has answered prayer before, and it causes us to take our eyes of the Lord yet again. Why do we do that? We’ve seen God do so many things in our lives; why is it that sometimes we find it harder to trust him than at other times? Don’t we know that the God who helped us in the past has promised to do it again?
When there’s a big mountain in our lives and we know we haven’t got a chance, we are more apt to cry out, “Help me, Jesus!” But when it’s just a little hill, we don’t always go to God in desperation. Many times, we say instead, “I can handle it myself.” The problem is that we can’t handle anything by ourselves! We’ve got to trust God at all times—for the big things, for the little things, and for the in-between things!
If you have a problem that you’re carrying yourself at this very moment, hear this word from the Lord: Trust in God at all times! Don’t stop trusting now! You’ve trusted him for all kinds of things he’s seen you through; can you not trust him for this new situation in your life? Keep your eyes on him—not just some of the time, but always! When we don’t put our trust in God, we end up carrying burdens we weren’t meant to carry. So, let’s tell God all our troubles, and let’s bring every situation to him, today, tomorrow, and always. He is our refuge, and he never tires of hearing our cry!
